2021 Eket Christmas Village // Eket Festival

 

Eket festival is strong unifying factor among the people of Eket, aimed at engineering the re-birth of Eket culture and heritage.

Eket is one of the 31 local government areas in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. The name Eket or Ekid also refers to the indigenous ethnic group of the region and to their language. the Eket people use the endonym Ekid for themselves and their languages, but Europeans spell and pronounce the name as Eket instead of Eket. Ekid day festival is always a great beauty to behold as different masquerades from the Eket senatorial district assemble at the venue for their unique and beautiful display.

Eket itself is an industrial city that in recent years has become a conurbation joining together separate villages. The office of the Surveyor-General of Akwa Ibom State estimates the area of the Eket Local Government Area to be approximately 176.000 square km while the 2018 National Census gives the population of the Local Government Area as 192, 856. However, the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Economic Development gives the 2017 estimated population of the Eket Local Government Area as given as 219, 564 with population density of 1, 241/ square km.

The guest were; the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Hon. Frank Archibong, Chief Iniobong Idem, Bar. Richard Iyaha, PDP Chapter Chairman, ObongIwaad Emmanuel Mbong, Dean Supervisors Hon. Imoh Ebitu, Chairman Labour and Industrial Committee Mr. Godwin Ndueso.
Others include, Mr. Joseph Etangkanga, Mr. Assam Usoro Udoantia, Special Adviser to the Chairman on Special Duties Hon. Edwin Sampson, Supervisor for Youth and Sports Comr. Daniel Essien, Mr. Samuel Okon, Mr. Tommey Tommey, Mr. Joseph Tommey and Mr. Samuel Okon.
The ground is already set for the Festival beginning with a Street Party on Wednesday December 1st, 2021 to January 1st, 2022, and it promises to be a month of fun and merriment.
