The Ikeja zone chairman of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria, Vivian Ibeh, has urged Nigerians to incorporate high-strength vitamin C in their daily nutrition, noting that it is crucial to boosting immunity against infections, including COVID-19.

Ibeh, a pharmacist, made this call at a community outreach programmed organized by the ACPN, Ikeja branch at the Area F Police Command, Ikeja. The outreach was targeted at the men of the Police Force.

The programmed was in celebration of the 2021 World Pharmacists Day held every September 25.

Ibeh also urged Nigerians to follow all the non-pharmaceutical measures in preventing COVID-19, noting that the viral disease is still prevalent in the country.

Speaking, she said, “It is very essential to follow the non-pharmaceutical interventions recommended for the prevention of COVID-19.

“These are what we expect members of the community to do. They should also use high strength immune boosters to fortify their immune system

“For instance, we are used to the 100 ml of vitamin C where we just pop in one or two tablets.

“However in this period, we need our community to know that they should be on higher strength vitamin C on a daily basis because that way, their immune system is bolstered up to help them fight infections, not just the COVID-19.”

Ibeh urged the police officers to embrace regular medical checks up, stating that they should undergo health screenings ranging from eye, blood sugar, blood pressure, vital signs, prostrate, hepatitis and HIV examinations among others.

Also speaking at the event, the Lagos State Chairman of the ACPN, Lawrence Ekhator said that the outreach was targeted at the men of the Force because they may not have time to take care of their health due to the pressure of duty.

He urged Nigerians to take the COVID-19 pandemic seriously, stressing that the viral infection is not a myth as some people erroneously believed.

“COVID-19 is real. Members of the public should not delude or deceive themselves that there’s nothing like COVID-19.

“As community pharmacists in Nigeria, we are urging members of the public to take it seriously. A lot of us have lost loved ones, if we have not, we know of somebody that has died from this disease.

“We don’t want Nigerians to become statistics for the infection before they realize this. We always advise they should take precautions; the non-pharmaceutical measures should be continued and most importantly get vaccinated.”
